Eat
Less Fat Your general
health requires that you reduce the intake of all fats,
especially animal fats. Fatty deposits in arteries and
gallstones are to a large extent made up of cholesterol.
When high food fats are eaten, excessive amounts of cholesterol
are produced in the body. 'Saturated' fat is mainly found
in animal foods. Other fats in the diet tend to reduce
the cholesterol in the body. This type of oil is found
in corn oil, sunflower seed oil and soya oil. Pastry,
cakes, cream biscuits, chocolates, meat, cheese, butter,
margarine or fat should be avoided. Develop the habit
of consuming grilled food instead of fried food.
Eat Less Sugar
Sugary foods are bad for your
teeth and can ruin your appetite for nutritious food.
The energy to be gained by eating sugar can also be
had from potatoes and whole-meal bread. If you overdo
the sweet in your diet, you will put on weight and increase
the risk of diabetes.
Eat More Fibre
A high-fibre diet keeps you fit
and regulated. There is evidence to suggest a connection
between a low-fibre diet and bowel cancer. A high fibre
diet offers you protection from a number of digestive
ailments. Eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, breakfast
cereals made from whole grain and wholemeal brown bread.
Eat More Fruits and
Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables supply
vitamins, minerals, and fibres without an extra load
of calories. |
